October 30th - December 11th
No games the week of Thanksgiving
Wednesday nights, starting at 5:30pm
You enter as an individual athlete and then you will be paired with a new partner each week. Points will be awarded to each individual on how they place throughout the season. The top finisher at the end of the season will be awarded prizes.
Format: Games will be played 2v2 with our intermediate and advanced players. Games will be played 4v4 with our beginners.
Benefits of this type of League:
Increased Involvement: In 2v2 volleyball, each player has a higher level of involvement compared to traditional 6v6 games. This increased engagement allows players to touch the ball more often, participate in various aspects of the game, and make more decisions. Consequently, they get more opportunities to practice their skills, such as passing, setting, hitting, serving, and teammate communication.
Improved Decision Making: With fewer players on the court, individuals must make quicker decisions. They learn to read the game, anticipate opponents' moves, and strategize effectively. These decision-making abilities are valuable not only in volleyball but also in many other sports.
Teamwork & Communication: 2v2 volleyball emphasizes teamwork and communication. Players must work together more closely, developing a deeper understanding of their teammate's playing styles and preferences. Effective communication is essential for coordinating movements, setting up plays, and executing strategies, fostering better interpersonal skills.
Skill Development: In 2v2 games, players often need to play multiple roles. They must be a passer, setter, and hitter in every game. They are not given one specific role, but must learn all positions, making them a much more valuable player when returning to their indoor team.
Space Utilization: The smaller team size and court create more open space on the court. Players must learn to utilize this space efficiently instead of depending on a different teammate to cover that area. This aspect encourages strategic thinking, hustle, and quickness on the court.
Game Awareness: In 2v2 volleyball, players need to be constantly aware of their surroundings, both on offense and defense. This heightened awareness develops their volleyball IQ, as they learn to identify opportunities on the court more effectively.
Fun & Engagement: The fast-paced and dynamic nature of 2v2 can make it more enjoyable for players, increasing their motivation to practice and improve their skills.
Athletes entering 7th grade to outgoing seniors will be allowed to sign up. Pairings will be based on skill level.
