Thank you for inquiring about the Legacy Beach Vertical Leap class. This program has been developed by Dr. Joel Kelley, and will be specialized to the athlete’s ability level (strength, athleticism, jumping history, etc.). Joel Kelley is a licensed physical therapist who conducted his doctoral research in vertical leap and athletic movements. He is a vertical leap specialist and has trained many athletes at all levels, covering a broad range of sports at varying levels of proficiency, improving their strength, athleticism, while decreasing risk of injury. This program is designed to meet athletes where they are currently at in their athletic journey. This program will span over 8 weeks of intensive interval training in the sand, utilizing varying weights/resistance to help improve the athlete’s strength, speed and explosion. The training will also incorporate extensive education in regards to the coordination of the maximal vertical leap, as well as other explosive athletic movements. The program will include two direct days of training at Legacy Beach Volleyball Club, and a virtual progression of exercises to be performed one day a week, as directed. Athletes will be able to access workouts on Joel Kelley’s YouTube channel. No makeups will be offered, but the athletes will have the list of exercises, and will be given access to the Legacy Beach facility to complete on their own. It is important to participate fully in the program for optimal results. In the event that weather interrupts the scheduled class, there will be make-up classes offered. Please keep in mind that this program is designed to increase the speed, quickness, power, and strength of the athlete. Upon completion of the program, the body is often fatigued and direct results are often not seen for a couple weeks afterwards. Recovery is part of the journey. The tools that will be taught in this program can be utilized throughout the lifespan to maintain/improve athletic performance, strength, and health.
